Renting a car in Iceland is a great way to experience the beauty and rugged landscape of this spectacular country. In order to do so, you must either be aged at least 20 years old or have held your driving license for at least 1 year.
You will be required to present a valid driver’s license from your country of residence as well as your credit card. Please note that if your license is not in English, an international driver permit is also required.
Additionally, if you do not have a credit card then we ask that you instead purchase the Premium Insurance for the duration of your rental period and this can be done online before arrival or once you have collected the vehicle.

Yes, you have to be at least 20 years old to rent a car with us. That includes a 2WD car or a medium-sized 4WD vehicle. If you're looking for a luxury car rental or a large 4WD Vehicle, you have to be at least 23 years old.
Yes, the minimum time we require for a car rental is 24 hours. You can still return the car earlier if you don't need it for a full 24-hour period, but the minimum charge is one day.
You need a valid driver's license as well as a credit card or debit card.
The license must be current and display the name of the driver. If you have an additional driver on your rental car, they also need to display a valid driver's license.
Almost certainly, although we will need to understand the writing on it, so it needs to be in Western alphabetical letters.
Otherwise, we will need to see a translated copy of your driver's license in English or you will need to have an international driver's license.
If not, make sure to bring an International Driver's License/Translation.
We do not take any deposit from our clients during their car rental. We do however need to see a valid credit card on arrival, which we require to take an imprint of as a guarantee.
If the renter does not have a credit card, we will require them to purchase our premium or premium plus+ insurance package.

Yes, you can rent a car in Reykjavik and drop it off at Keflavik International Airport. There is an abundance of car rental sites located both in and around the city to provide you greater freedom when travelling via rental car.
When making your reservation, be sure to select a one-way rental, starting in Reykjavik and ending in Kelfavik. And please note that a fee of 50 euros applies for this service.

Keflavik International Airport
Our home base is conveniently nestled just a 5-minute drive away from Keflavik Airport. We're stationed at Fuglavík 43, 230 Reykjanesbær.
Upon landing at Keflavik International Airport, our shuttle bus awaits you at the Meeting Point area in the departure side of the terminal.
Checkpoints on your way to the Meeting Point: 1. Make a left turn as soon as you exit the arrivals. 2. You will pass by "Arion Banki" and then take a left turn. 3. Stay on this path until you see the Meeting Point sign.
Reykjavik (main office)
Our main office is located in Hafnarfjordur, the town of the Vikings and the Elves! It is a suburb of the capital Reykjavik. If you need to pick-up or drop off there you will have to arrange it through the public transportation or taxi.
Our friendly service hours are pretty flexible to fit your needs!
Keflavik International Airport (KEF)
Our office is open round the clock, 24/7, until the 30th of September. After that, we adjust our hours to be open from 06:00 - 19:00. Whether you're picking up or dropping off, our self-service is available all day and all night, every day of the year.
Reykjavik
In Reykjavik, our doors are open from 08:00 - 17:00. Don't worry about drop-offs, we accept returns 24/7. However, please note we do close for pick-ups on a few specific dates: December 24th, December 25th, and from 14:00 on December 31st until 14:00 on January 1st.
We have a self-service pickup option available at Keflavik International Airport that is open 24/7 365.
We also offer night pick ups and drop-off, we can track your flight information to make sure the car is ready when you arrive. We will be waiting for you in the arrival hall of the airport.
In an unusual scenario like that, we will make sure to give you a similar model of the vehicle. We want to make sure you get what you pay for! So we would discuss this with you at the time of pickup if it were to ever happen.
The renter of the vehicle must have a credit card OR debit card when picking up the vehicle. We prefer credit cards. We also accept Debit Cards.
If you do not have a credit card we will require you to purchase the premium or premium plus+ insurance package.
Tolls will be charged electronically in certain road tunnels or national parks. For a detailed list of what you can expect, check out our Guide To Toll Roads. Most roads in Iceland are free to drive on!

We have friendly workshops positioned all around Iceland that can fix the car. If that doesn't work out, we will bring you another car as soon as possible. But with our maintenance policy, we have never experienced such a situation and we aim to keep it that way.
The phone call is completely free but if you need help that requires a person to come to your location or finding a garage for you the phone call will cost 12.500 ISK.
No, it's not permitted to sleep in your rental car. But our partners at Go Campers offer all sorts of camper vans for rental which you can sleep in. We share an office with them so we recommend that you check them out if you are thinking about camping out on your road trip.
If you go you www.gsmbensin.is, you can see up-to-date prices varying from the cheapest stations up to the most expensive ones, It's usually just a matter of a 2-3 krone per liter difference.
We also give out free Discount cards for use at N1 gas stations in Iceland.

Every year from the first of November to the fifteenth of April, all of our rental cars are equipped with studded winter tires. Regulations and rules in Iceland prohibit the use of studded tires during other times.

Our portable WiFi router comes with unlimited data and can be used by multiple devices. The Wifi will work all over Iceland not just in the city. Stay updated on the latest weather and road conditions, or just simply use your phone/computer to binge your favorite movies or tv shows.
Yes, at Go Car Rental Iceland, we are pleased to offer roof boxes as an additional option for your rental vehicle. Our spacious roof boxes have a capacity of 330 liters, providing ample storage for your luggage, outdoor gear, or any other items you may need during your Icelandic adventure. The roof boxes are available for just 25 euros per day, ensuring that you have the extra space you need without breaking the bank.
Please note that roof boxes are currently only available for our Dacia Duster and Subaru Forester models. To reserve a roof box for your rental car, simply add it while making your booking on our website, and our team will ensure that it is ready for you upon arrival. Yes, you will receive the rental car with a full tank and you will need to return the car with a full tank. If the fuel tank is not filled, we will charge a 35€ service fee on top of the fuel charge.
A pre-paid fuel can be added to your rental so you don't need to fill the rental car up before returning it.
While it is not required for you to clean your rental car before returning it, we kindly request that you take a moment to remove any trash from the vehicle. This simple gesture helps us ensure that our cars remain in great condition for the next customer, and it enables us to continue offering top-notch service.
